31st August 2025 - Session 2: Nenthead Mines Visit - underground

Apparently the LoLasses are one of the noisiest groups ever to have visited the barracks building at Nenthead Mines 😂

After tea and delicious cakes, courtesy of the mine volunteers, Julia introduced next month's weaving project. Following a look at the geological specimens on show, and some quick sketching of ideas, ten of us went underground to look at the mine's construction and geology, and learn about its history.






On the way through, we hung the textiles prepared last month.

30th November 2025 - Session 5: Batik, shibori, silk painting

Another session where we worked with our organic calico, some of us adapted and augmented our mine-dyed pieces while others worked on fresh material with beeswax...  or by folding and tying, before dyeing.  We talked about the miner's shirt project, and whether to work collaboratively on a single shirt or individually, and agreed to do a bit of both. People donated pieces of their fabric to make one shirt, and some of us even got round to cutting out collars.
